Thaipusam is a time of devotion, self-reflection, and gratitude, observed as a day of prayer, penance, and acts of kindness. This year, in honour of this meaningful occasion, UNITAR Sungai Petani, Kedah, and UNITAR Ipoh, Perak each organised their own 1Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, giving back to their local communities through free food distribution.
With over 1,000 attendees at each location, the initiative aimed to reflect the core values of compassion, generosity, and unity. Students, staff, and local community members came together in a spirit of giving, ensuring that no one was left behind on this auspicious day.
The event was more than just a meal—it was a gesture of solidarity and kindness. Volunteers worked hand in hand to prepare and distribute food, fostering a warm and inclusive atmosphere where everyone felt welcomed and cared for. Smiles were exchanged, stories were shared, and a deep sense of togetherness filled the air.
“At its heart, Thaipusam teaches us about sacrifice, devotion, and service to others. Through this initiative, we hope to not only provide nourishment but also spread positivity and support to those in need,” shared a UNITAR representative.
UNITAR remains committed to community engagement and social responsibility, striving to create meaningful impacts beyond the classroom. By embracing the values of Thaipusam, the university continues to inspire its students and staff to give back, uplift others, and celebrate cultural diversity.
May this Thaipusam remind us all of the power of kindness, unity, and gratitude.
