THE Petaling Jaya Half Marathon (PJ Half) is returning for its 31st edition on Aug 25.
The marathon will take place at Dataran Petaling Jaya and will comprise the 30km, 21km, 10km and 3km categories. The distance for a full marathon is 42km.
Petaling Jaya mayor Datuk Mohd Sayuthi Bakar said the marathon drew many to join the annual event.“Due to positive response, the run had to close its registration earlier than usual, ” said Sayuthi at the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) headquarters in Jalan Yong Shook Lin.
He said 10, 000 participants registered for the run. “This event is also gaining attention internationally, with 259 people registered from 42 countries, ” said Sayuthi.
The PJ Half Marathon mobile app, which was introduced last year, will be used this year to provide live-tracking and announcements related to the run. The main roads that will be used for the PJ Half are Jalan Gasing, Jalan Templer, Jalan Universiti and Jalan Sultan.
To ensure smooth traffic flow, 100 traffic policemen will be stationed along the route along with 50 MBPJ enforcement officers to monitor the roads. Sayuthi also advised participants and spectators not to park along the road to avoid congestion.
Persatuan Olahraga Para Selangor (POPS) honorary secretary Mohan Govinda Samy said the run provided a chance to the community to take part in such events.“The marathon brings the community together, ” said Mohan.
PJ Half is jointly organised by POPS and MBPJ with Puncak Ventures SRA Sdn Bhd. Sponsors for the event are F&N Beverages Marketing Sdn Bhd, Ultron, Suunto, Unitar International University, Perizon and Beaute Library.
