UNITAR Welcomes Speaker of Parliament to Launch Centre for Governance and Democracy

Petaling Jaya, 18 July 2023 – UNITAR International University (“UNITAR”) welcomed Yang Berhormat Tan Sri Dato’ Johari bin Abdul, the Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat in Parliament, to officially launch the Centre for Governance and Democracy and host a conversation on Nurturing Leaders of Tomorrow. The historic event was proudly held at UNITAR’s Main Campus in Kelana Jaya on 18 July 2023.

The Centre for Governance and Democracy was launched with a mission to promote the principles of good governance, foster democratic values as well as enhance the capacity of institutions towards effective governance and sustainable development.

Paired with a vision to become a globally recognised hub for research, training, and advocacy in governance and democracy, UNITAR sought to achieve the following objectives through this launch:

• Provide training and capacity-building.
• Foster partnerships and networks
• Promote good governance practices.
• Support democratic participation

The event, which was witnessed by the senior management of UNITAR along with NGOs, policymakers, and other distinguished researchers within various industries is ready to provide institutions with an abundance of impeccable knowledge, industry-relevant skills and powerful networking opportunities that will positively impact the communities they serve regularly.
