Doctor of Philosophy in Management gives students the opportunity to research, conceptualize and implement an independent, original project. Management skills, the ability to organize resources and work as a team as well as independently, culminate at the end of the course in a thesis that is the product of new knowledge and enlightened awareness.

Programme Entry Requirements

You must meet the following requirements in order to be considered for entry to the UNITAR Ph.D Programme:

  • A Master’s Degree/ Master’s Degree in Business [Level 7, Malaysian Qualification Framework (MQF)] or in other related discipline and recognized by the University Senate; OR
  • For local candidates, a pass in SPM with a minimum credit in English subject or its equivalent. For international students, a minimum score of 550 in TOEFL or minimum score of 6.5 in IELTS. The validity of both qualifications are two (2) years from the awarded date; AND 
  • A proposal of about 500 words in English must be submitted together with all the relevant documents required for admission to the University on the registration day; OR
  • A Master’s Degree from an institution which uses English as the medium of instruction; OR
  • Pass an internal assessment (oral examination) set by the university, with a minimum grade of C. The panel for the assessment shall comprise of two senior members of the faculty/ school and a representative from the English Language Department from UNITAR Foundation School (UFS) or other relevant departments. The panel is appointed by the Dean/ Director of the respective faculty/ school/ centres. Any additional assistance will be provided by the staff from the English Language Department.

Career Prospects

The English Language Entry Requirement for Malaysian students at UNITAR International University are as follows:

For PhD Programmes:

  • A minimum of credit in English SPM level; or

  • Pass a Master Degree from an institution which applies English as the medium of instruction recognised by the Malaysian Government, or

  • Pass an internal assessment set by the University, with a minimum score of C

For M.Ed TESL:

  • A minimum of credit in English at SPM level, or,

  • A minimum score of Band 3 in Malaysian University English Test (MUET), or,

  • Pass an internal assessment set by the University, with a minimum score of C


Internal Assessment:  An oral test in the form of interview which will be conducted by a panel of interviewers consisting of two members from each Faculty and a representative from English Language department or any other related department
