Programme Entry Requirements
You must meet the following requirements in order to be considered for entry to the UNITAR Master's Programme:
  • A Bachelor's Degree or its equivalent with a minimum CGPA of 2.75; OR
  • A Bachelor's Degree or its equivalent, with minimum CGPA of 2.50 but not meeting CGPA of 2.75, can be accepted subject to rigorous internal assessment; OR
  • A Bachelor's Degree or its equivalent, with CGPA below than 2.50, can be accepted subject to minimum five (5) years working experience in the related field; OR
  • Applicants into the Master’s program (level 7, MQF) through APEL, must be a Malaysian citizen aged more than 30 years of age in the year of application with relevant work experience/ prior experiential learning and passed APEL assessment.

LOCAL STUDENTS

The English Language Entry Requirement for Malaysian students at UNITAR International University are as follows:

For PhD Programmes:

  • A minimum of credit in English SPM level; or

  • Pass a Master Degree from an institution which applies English as the medium of instruction recognised by the Malaysian Government, or

  • Pass an internal assessment set by the University, with a minimum score of C

For M.Ed TESL:

  • A minimum of credit in English at SPM level, or,

  • A minimum score of Band 3 in Malaysian University English Test (MUET), or,

  • Pass an internal assessment set by the University, with a minimum score of C

Note:

Internal Assessment:  An oral test in the form of interview which will be conducted by a panel of interviewers consisting of two members from each Faculty and a representative from English Language department or any other related department

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

International Students are required to sit for TOEFL or IELTS prior to joining the university. Students who do not have either qualification will have to sit for the UNITAR English Placement Test (UEPT).

Note:
  • IELTS: International English Language Testing System
  • TOEFL: Test of English as a Foreign Language
  • UEPT: UNITAR English Placement Test
Validity period of the IELTS or TOEFL qualification is TWO (2) years from the date of award. UNITAR does not accept any other English proficiency qualification or certificate except for the IELTS or TOEFL qualifications.

International Students who do not possess either the IELTS or TOEFL qualification (or do not have the required score band) will be required to sit for the UNITAR-administered English Placement Test (UEPT).

International Students who acquire the required score band of English based on the UEPT will be able to sit for the IELTS examination and to register for their Faculty courses once they obtain the IELTS result.

International Students who acquire a lower score band of English based on the UEPT will be placed in the appropriate level of proficiency and are required to complete and pass Intensive English Programme(IEP) before registering for their IELTS examination and Faculty courses.
